Types of Roof Insulation

Insulating your roof is one of the best ways to cut down on energy costs. It keeps the interior building temperature at room level so your AC and heater do not have to work overtime. This saves you money and also protects the environment by reducing the use of fossil fuels.

Depending on your home, you can opt for blown in insulation, blanket insulation or rigid foam board. Blown in insulation is a convenient option for ceilings without attic space since a contractor can blow loose fiberglass or cellulose directly into the hard-to-reach spaces. It is also a good choice for sloping roof constructions.

Blanket insulation is a soft and flexible material that is easy to install. It is available in foil-faced rolls or strips and can be stapled to the rafters. This type of insulation is commonly made from glass wool or mineral fibers. These are then combined with plastic or natural fibers such as cotton and sheep’s wool. It can also be made from paper, cellulose, and wood shavings.

Rigid foam boards are dense sheets of closed-cell or open-cell polystyrene or a mixture of these two types. They are typically coated with a reflective barrier, which helps constrain the spread of heat by thermal radiation. Some are also able to resist moisture and can be easily cut.

These boards are easy to fit in place because they are already cut to size and shape before delivery. This makes them much quicker to install than the traditional roll or blanket insulation. roof insulation
