Abrasive Wheels Training is a practical course covering the responsibilities of those who operate grinding wheels in order to minimise the risk of injury. It is designed to give participants the knowledge they need to use these powerful pieces of equipment safely and correctly while meeting all relevant UK health and safety requirements.
This course is designed for staff who operate abrasive wheels as part of their regular workplace duties, particularly those using tools such as angle grinders and disc cutters. It is also suitable for those who would like to refresh their knowledge in this area. It is a mandatory requirement of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER 98) for employers to ensure that anyone using abrasive wheels has received appropriate training and instruction.
An abrasive wheel is an abrasive grit-like material bonded by either inorganic substances like glues or organic ones such as resins. Generally found in handheld and portable machines such as angle grinders, they are used to grind, cut or polish hard materials. If not used properly, abrasive wheels can cause injuries such as cuts, bruises, burns and lacerations.
This course consists of a theory session followed by a practical training day where you will have the chance to try out different types of grinding wheel equipment under guidance from our experienced trainers. It covers how to choose, test, mount and maintain an abrasive wheel as well as understanding the hazards and risks associated with their use. It also explains how to store the wheel properly, following all relevant protocols. Abrasive Wheels Training
