Similar to fish oil, krill oil contains a rich amount of omega-3 fatty acids, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). These omega-3 fatty acids play a vital role in nerve and brain functioning. Omega-3s are not produced in the human body, so they are achieved from some external sources. Mainly, there are 3 types of omega-3 fatty acids; including —
- Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)
- Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)
- Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA)
Krill Oil Uses:
Krill oil is used in one of the following conditions —
1. Premature Skin Wrinkles:
Capsules containing krill oil, zinc, vitamin D, vitamin C, buckthorn berry oil, cacao bean extract, hyaluronic acid, red clover isoflavones may reduce wrinkles with in 12 weeks. Also, applying it with tajrotein alone increases skin’s moisture and skin elasticity with aging. However, it is not clear whether these benefits come from krill oil or because of other elements present in the supplements.
2. High Cholesterol:
Some research has found that krill oil products, in particular, reduce total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. Krill oil increases good cholesterol (HDL) in people with high cholesterol. Triglyceride is another type of body fat, which can also be reduced with the help of the krill oil. However, other research has found that krill oil does not reduce cholesterol. Krill oil can hardly prove beneficial for people with high cholesterol. More studies are still needed to confirm this.
3. High Triglyceride:
It is a type of body fat. Consuming krill oil products twice a day for 12 weeks reduces the high triglyceride levels. However, changes in triglyceride levels may vary from person to person. This supplement was not found to improve the total cholesterol level, which is called bad cholesterol.
4. Osteoarthritis:
Osteoarthritis is a type of joint pain. Initial studies found that taking 300 mg of krill oil per day reduced the pain and stiffness in the people with osteoarthritis.
5. Premenstrual Syndrome:
Early studies have found that consuming 2 grams of krill oil per day may reduce the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome. Taking vitamin B, soy isoflavones and rosemary extract daily along with krill oil for three months reduces the symptoms of PMS (premenstrual syndrome).
